My children are pretty overzealous apple pickers. I tried my best to balance as many apples into the two largest mixing bowls we own, and there was still a canvas tote full of apples after our latest trip to the orchard.

The bulk of our haul will head into school lunches and homemade applesauce while the rest are destined for sweeter ventures.

Keep this list of apple cakes and desserts handy so that you always have something sweet and seasonal - should you end up with a few extra apples too:

Apple Cinnamon Cake - This simple Apple Cinnamon Cake is made up of layers of fluffy buttermilk cake and cinnamon apple filling with an easy vanilla glaze on top. Sweet, spiced, and moist, this cake is packed full of flavor and perfect for fall.

Apple Rose Tart - Baked in a snappy pate sucrée short crust, this French Apple Rose Tart is made of thin apple slices nestled in an almond frangipane filling. Layering the apple slices like a rose makes a stunning pattern on a simple, elegant dessert.

Apple Butterscotch Cake - Frosted and served in its own pan, this simple snack cake is ready to be devoured within the hour. The brown sugar butterscotch frosting is reason enough to give it a try!

Caramel Apple Coffee Cake - Pour yourself a cuppa and settle in with this Caramel Apple Coffee Cake. Thank the hefty amounts of brown sugar, diced apples, and sour cream for keeping this cake extra moist and delicious.

Caramel Apple Spice Cake - Full of apple flavor and served with a to-die-for apple cider caramel sauce, this Caramel Apple Spice Cake is the perfect celebration cake for all your fall festivities. Three different types of apple are used to keep things extra moist and flavorful.

Apple Blueberry Pie - This blushing apple pie bridges late summer and early fall with the juiciest blueberries and crisp apples. Past berry season? Frozen blueberries work perfectly in this recipe too.
