Hi Bakers!
It’s no surprise to anyone here, but the kitchen is my happy place. Especially after an illness or extended time away, it’s the kitchen that’s always my re-entry back to regular life.
I won’t dwell on the crappy cold that passed through the family, but instead the little things I notice and appreciate when coming out of it: the tinkling sound of snow melting under the sun, fresh sheets, all the books I have yet to read, and the cinnamon toast that always taste better when someone else butters it for you.
Whether I’m recovering from a cold or on the last leg of a long trip home, my restless mind always weaves and wanders back to food. What is the first thing I am going to make in the kitchen after being away? What am I going to eat once my appetite is back? I daydream about food, romanticizing the simple need to nourish my body.
